Barmy owner Eve Lodge received the ‘Solopreneur’ prize at the 2015 Yorkshire BIY awards dinner at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on Friday afternoon.
Barnsley-based Eve, 17, was shortlisted in three categories: the Ambition Award, One to Watch Award and the Solopreneur Award.
And having been pipped in the first two, she was thrilled to be named as the winner in the final category to be announced – and was delighted to receive her award from the judges, which included the Yorkshire BIY founder, Darren Shaw (pictured below).
Said Eve: “I was gob-smacked! There were so many brilliant businesses in the various categories and I was just thrilled to be on the shortlist for three of them.
“To be named the winner of the Solopreneur category was a dream come true. I was so happy I couldn’t keep a smile off my face for the rest of the day!
“My nannan had come along with me [with my dad] and when the winner was revealed, and my name was announced, the whole room could hear her cheering!
“I bet she was heard back in Barnsley too!
“There were some lovely people there, and some great businesses, and hopefully I can keep in touch with them all.”
Already this year Eve has finished runner-up in the Aspiring Entrepreneur category of the national Making Business Happen Awards, and was nominated for the Yorkshire Women of Achievement’s Young Achiever Award. She has also reached the top 100 of The Pitch, the UK’s biggest small business competition, and will be pitching in London this month to try and reach the final 30.
